Peaches & Cream Green Protein Smoothie Recipe (DF, GF, Paleo)
I make my smoothies in my Vitamix that I’m also obsessed with (I’ve had it 10 years, use it 1-2x a day and have dropped it, moved it, etc. and it’s still going strong!) but you can use any high powered blender (I just can’t guarantee it will taste as great :))
Smoothie Ingredients:
I’ve linked some of my favorites below!
- 1/4 – 1/2 frozen banana (unripe will be lower sugar than ripe banana)
- 1 cup frozen spinach (I recommend spinach due subtle flavor)
- 1-2 tablespoon cashews or your favorite nut butter for healthy fats. (look for one with only one ingredient – peanuts and optional salt. Can sub almond butter or any other nut butter if paleo or Whole30)
- 1-1.5 c. non dairy milk (I suggest 1/2 cup full fat coconut milk and 1/2 c. unsweetened almond milk for the extra creaminess! Less milk will make it more like a smoothie bowl)
- 1 t. vanilla extract (optional)
- 1-2 servings protein powder of choice (I almost always use Vital Proteins collagen, or vanilla protein powder)
- 1 T. flax seeds or chia seeds (fiber!)
Smoothie Recipe:
- Slice and freeze bananas ahead of time if possible (this will make the smoothie super thick and creamy like a milkshake)
- Fill blender with almond milk or liquid of choice
- Add protein powder and chia or flax seeds and blend to keep them from sticking to the sides
- Add all other ingredients
- Blend on high speed for 1-2 minutes in high powered blender (I love my Vitamix here) until smooth
- Top with crushed nuts, chopped bananas or fresh peaches, or whatever toppings you choose!
Peaches & Cream Green Protein Smoothie FAQs
Q: Can I use fresh peaches, or do frozen peaches work better in the smoothie?
- A: You can use either fresh or frozen peaches, depending on your preference. Frozen peaches will make it creamier and will give it more of the “ice cream” texture.
Q: Are there specific greens that pair well with peaches?
- A: I recommend spinach because of its mild flavor, you literally can’t even tell it’s there. But feel free to experiment with kale or any other greens you like.
Q: Can I skip the protein powder and still make it a paleo-friendly protein smoothie?
- A: Yes although if you skip the protein powder I would recommend adding another protein source to keep the balances macronutrient profile that makes this healthy and helpful for weight loss. You could add hemp seeds or greek yogurt if you are non-paleo and tolerate dairy well.
Q: Can I use water instead of a paleo-friendly milk alternative in the smoothie?
- A: Yes! It won’t be quite as creamy but water would absolutely work.
Q: Can I prepare the ingredients for this paleo smoothie ahead of time for meal prep?
- A: You could absolutely chop and freeze the fruit beforehand and portion out the dry ingredients so all you have to do is dump and blend in the morning.
Q: Are there alternatives for those with nut allergies or on a strict paleo diet?
- A: Yes! Choose a paleo-friendly milk alternative such as coconut milk or hemp milk to keep the smoothie nut-free.
Q: Can I add paleo-approved nuts or seeds for extra texture and nutrition?
- A: Absolutely! Consider adding chia seeds, hemp seeds, or a handful of almonds for added crunch and nutritional benefits.
Q: Can I adjust the sweetness of the smoothie?
- A: Yes! Adjust the amount of banana to adjust the sweetness level, or look for unripe bananas to add the creaminess with less of the sugar.
Q: How can I make this smoothie more filling for a meal replacement?
- A: This smoothie made as is per the recipe is VERY filling! I make my green/protein smoothies to be an actual meal so it was created as such, but if you find yourself hungry shortly after, you can increase the protein content by adding an extra scoop of protein powder, add an extra tablespoon of chia seeds for added fiber and satiety, and/or increase the nut butter to 1.5-2 T instead of 1.
Q: Is the Vitamix worth it or is there another blender you would recommend?
- A: I 100000x recommend the Vitamix. (I have this Vitamix model) I got mine 10 years ago for a wedding gift, and have used it 1-2x daily ever since. I use it to make EVERYTHING – soups, sauces, smoothies, almond/cashew milk and butter. It’s durable, versatile and high powered. I’ve used other blenders and don’t think they even compare. If this one ever breaks, I won’t even question buying another one. (I think they come with a warranty too!) I also use this Ninja when at my sisters, and while it’s not ideal, it does get the job done!
