This cherry chocolate green protein smoothie is a perfect easy, quick, healthy, balanced breakfast (snack or anytime meal) to help you reach and maintain your weight loss goals while loving what you’re eating (and drinking!)
One day I was wanting a macronutrient balanced, healthy breakfast idea to switch up from my go-to green smoothie, and opened my cupboards to see what I had.
Frozen cherries, cacao nibs, cacao powder, banana…cherry chocolate? I figured I would try it out..and was so glad I did!

Why I love this cherry chocolate green protein Smoothie
This cherry chocolate green protein smoothie recipe (which I sometimes make into a smoothie bowl) has lots of what you need (protein healthy fats and fiber) and none of what you don’t. (preservatives and added sugar) making it an exceptional meal or snack for optimal health AND weight loss – a win/win!
It makes the perfect healthy breakfast on the go, lunch, post workout snack, or meal anytime you want something healthy and don’t have a lot of time. This smoothie is also paleo, gluten free, dairy free and can be made vegan by subbing the protein powder.
I used to make my smoothies with tons of fruit, and wasn’t sure why I felt sleepy and hungry shortly after drinking them. Now I know it’s because they were 50% ++ sugar, and not enough protein and healthy fats. I still add fruit, but a lot less of it and make sure to boost it up with the right protein, fiber and fats.

Cherry Chocolate Green Protein Smoothie Recipe:
Green Smoothie Recipe Ingredients:
- 1/2 frozen banana
- 1/2-1 c. Frozen cherries
- 1 cup frozen spinach
- 1-2 T. Flax or chia seeds
- 1/2-1 T. cacao powder
- 1 T. cacao nibs (optional)
- 1 serving protein powder (I love Vital Proteins collagen protein powder, vanilla or chocolate would be great here too)
- 1 t. pure vanilla
- 1- 1.5 c unsweetened almond milk or milk of choice, I prefer non-dairy (adjust amount depending on how thick/thin you want it)
- 1/4 avocado, cashews, macadamia nuts or sub 1 T. almond or cashew butter (adds creaminess!)
Green Smoothie Instructions:
- Blend all ingredients in a high powered blender (I LOVE my Vitamix)
- Top it with a few more cacao nibs and/or crushed nuts.
- This can easily be made into a “smoothie bowl” recipe by adding more milk and eating it with a spoon!
